The University of Ngozi
Description
About The University of Ngozi
Established on April 17, 1999, and officially approved by ministerial order no. 530/264 On May 7, 1999, the University of Ngozi emerged as a transformative addition to Burundi’s educational landscape. The university was founded when the country’s sole public university in Bujumbura was overwhelmed, accommodating 7,000 students for only 4,000 available slots. Recognizing the urgent need for expanded higher education opportunities, the University of Ngozi aimed to alleviate this strain and foster the growth of tertiary education. At that time, Burundi had only one student per 1,000 inhabitants, significantly below the African average of three students per 1,000 in 1999. The University of Ngozi’s mission was not just to provide education, but to transform lives and shape the future of Burundi’s youth.
