About Mzuzu University
Situated in Luwinga, Mzuzu City, in the northern region of Malawi, Mzuzu University serves as a key pillar of higher education in the country. Established in 1997 from a teachers’ training college that dates back to the 1970s, it welcomed its first cohort of students in 1999. The university’s founding was marked by the involvement of prominent figures such as former Malawian president Bakili Muluzi, who served as Chancellor, and Professor Terrence Davis, its first Vice-Chancellor. Professor Peter Mwanza played a crucial role in its establishment and later ventured into politics, where he served as Chairman of the University Council before becoming Vice-Chancellor.
