About the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA)
For over half a century, the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has been a trailblazer in Ghana’s educational landscape, seamlessly integrating academic excellence with professional advancement. Founded in 1965 by the visionary Nana J.K. Opoku Ampomah, UPSA started as a private business professional institution. From its humble beginnings as a small private tutorial college, UPSA transitioned into a government-owned entity in 1978, solidifying its position as a leading tertiary educational institution in West Africa. In 2008, UPSA achieved a significant milestone by receiving a Presidential Charter, signifying its transformation into a fully-fledged university with the authority to confer certificates, diplomas, and degrees. Subsequently, in 2012, the institution’s name was changed from the Institute of Professional Studies to the University of Professional Studies, reflecting its expanded scope and enhanced stature.
Today, UPSA continues to flourish, offering a diverse array of professional, postgraduate, bachelor’s, and diploma programs to over 20,000 students. With accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in the USA, UPSA maintains a distinct identity by blending scholarly rigor with professional competence.
